  • Sun Zodiac Constellations

    The constellations used in astrology and astronomy share the same names, but they don’t match up in the sky. Here’s why:

    • Astrological Zodiac: Astrology follows a traditional system where the year is divided into twelve zodiac signs. For example, it assumes the Sun is in Aries at the March Equinox. However, this system does not account for the actual movement of the constellations.
    • Astronomical Zodiac: Astronomically, the Sun is in the constellation of Pisces during the March Equinox. This is based on the real position of the Sun and stars in the sky, which has shifted over time due to a phenomenon called precession.
    • Why the Difference? The astrological zodiac hasn’t changed for thousands of years, but the sky has! Astronomy looks at the current positions of the constellations, which have moved over time.
    • Age of Pisces: We are currently in the Age of Pisces, which began over 2,000 years ago. The next age will be the Age of Aquarius, when the Sun will be in that constellation during the March Equinox.
